Today was the filing deadline for SD 14 Special Election to replace Senator Kirk Watson (D-Austin).  This election will be conducted the same day as the primary runoff, on July 14, 2020.  There are six candidates:  two Democrats, two Republicans, one Libertarian and one Independent.

SD 14 is a 70% Democrat district, and both Rodriguez and Eckhardt are well known and popular in the district. Republican Don Zimmerman is a former Austin City Council member, and recently missed the Republican runoff for HD 47 by only 1 point.  Republican Burns was originally listed on SOS an an Independent candidate, but has since been changed to Republican.
