Let Arévalo Continue Her Good Work in HD 116
Trey Martinez Fischer announced recently he will make a bid to regain his old seat representing District 116 in the Texas Legislature. I think that’s a bad idea for San Antonio, and I submit that the current seat holder, Rep. Diana Arevalo, deserves a chance to keep her seat. Here’s why.
Recently, I met Rep. Arevalo at the Christmas meeting of the San Antonio District Dental Society, where she was a guest of one of the society’s past presidents. SADDS promotes the professionalism of local dentists, connecting them to state and national health care issues. I enjoyed hearing Arevalo’s ideas and witnessed her careful note-taking during the keynote given by the president of the Texas Dental Association.
District 116 includes UT Health San Antonio, so vital to our business and intellectual community, and Arevalo holds a seat on the important Public Health Committee. Her remarks revealed sensible knowledge about health care issues important to us all.
This is a painful, cathartic time in our culture regarding the suppression and control of women’s bodies and careers. Many women finally feel empowered to tell their stories about male harassment and “power over” tactics in many…(more)
