The Libertarian Party candidate filing process is different than the Republican and Democratic filing processes, but all candidates must adhere to the same state deadlines regardless of party.

December – Libertarian candidates file Applications for Nomination with county party chairs for single-county districts, or with the state party chair for multi-county districts and statewide offices. 2024 election cycle deadlines were December 11, 2023 for candidate filing, and December 21 for reporting all candidates to the Secretary of State Elections Division.

March – Libertarian nominating conventions are held by each single-county and multi-county district, where candidates are selected by party members. March 2024 Conventions will be held March 16 and 23 for County and District, respectively.

April – Statewide and presidential candidates are nominated at the party’s state convention in April of an election year. The 2024 convention will be held April 12-14. Nominated candidates must be certified and submitted to the Secretary of State by early May.

August – The fourth Friday in August is the last day for candidates to withdraw or be declared ineligible. The 2024 deadline is August 23rd.
