HD52: Chairman Larry Gonzales Resigns from the Texas Legislature
I first walked into the Texas State Capitol in 1991, a young, eager intern ready to learn as much as I could and help make Texas the beacon of what good state government should be. Twenty-seven years later (can you believe it’s been 27 years??), I’m happy with everything we have accomplished.
I say “we” because as a staffer, I have had the honor of working for some great Texans. I want to say thank you to each of them for helping me along the way. I also say “we” because as a legislator myself, I have had incredible staff around me, learning with me, what this job is all about.
There are no solo victories in the Texas Legislature. The success of Texas relies on teamwork – everyone working together for what is best for TEXAS.
Having said that, it’s time to move on. My little family needs me. I’ve missed a lot. I want to honor my wife, Marie, and our two kids, Leah and Alexander, for having been such troopers the last nine years. They have supported me, encouraged me, and have been very patient with me the entire time I served in an elected capacity.
Today I tendered my resignation from the Texas House of Representatives. Below you will find the letter I sent to Speaker Joe Straus. I have also spoken with the Office of the Governor and the Lieutenant Governor’s office to inform them as well.
Thank you all for your support, the confidence you showed in me, and for the love you have for my very supportive family. God Bless HD52, and God Bless Texas!
– Larry

The Honorable Joe Straus
Speaker of the House
Room 2W.13
P.O. Box 2910
Austin, TX 78768
Dear Speaker Straus,
It has truly been an honor to serve in the Texas House of Representatives, representing the values and ideals of the wonderful Texans who call House District 52 home. I am very proud of my staff, the work they have done, and everything we have accomplished together in my four terms in office.
I am confident Texas is stronger and better off today than it has ever been. We did great work in a variety of areas to ensure the future of Texas remains bright. I want to thank you for the trust you showed in me, allowing me the opportunity to serve in the leadership roles you saw appropriate.
As you know, last summer I decided not to seek re-election to the Texas Legislature. I am happy with that decision. Serving in this capacity has been a wonderful part of my life. It’s time now, however, to move on, and begin the next phase of what exciting opportunities lie in wait for the entire Gonzales family.
Therefore, I am informing you, that I am resigning from the Texas House of Representatives effect Thursday, June 7, 2018.
Sincerely,
Larry Gonzales
