Four seats on the Texas Supreme Court will appear on the 2026 ballot.
Chief Justice: Jimmy Blacklock was appointed Chief in January 2025 following the retirement of Chief Justice Nathan Hecht, leaving a vacancy in Place 2. Chief Blacklock must run for re-election to the Chief spot on the 2026 ballot.
Place 2: Justice James Sullivan was appointed to Place 2 in January 2025. Sullivan most recently served as General Counsel to Governor Abbott.
Place 7: Justice Jeff Boyd announced on April 9, 2025 that he will retire from the Court in the summer. That vacancy will require the Governor to appoint a new Justice to Place 7, and that new appointee will run for re-election on the 2026 ballot.
Place 8: Justice Brett Busby is up for re-election on the 2026 ballot.
Profiles of appellate judicial candidates will appear on Texas Judges as that information becomes available.
