Jimmie Don Aycock endorses Scott Cosper to succeed him

in the Texas House

Highly respected House Chairman cites Cosper’s years of community service and leadership

KILLEEN, TX—State Rep. Jimmie Don Aycock (R-‐Killeen) has endorsed Killeen Mayor Scott Cosper in the race to succeed him in the Texas House. Aycock is retiring after 10 years of faithful service to the people of Bell and Lampasas Counties.

Aycock joins a long list of Cosper supporters that include former Rep. Fred Brown, now Salado’s Mayor Pro Tem, Bell County community leaders Drayton and Elizabeth McLane, seven retired U.S. Army Generals and seven retired Command Sergeant Majors, 12 current and former District 54 mayors, and more than 100 local business leaders and grassroots conservatives.

Cosper is also endorsed by the Texas Farm Bureau (AgFund), Texas Association of Business (BACPAC),

Texas Medical Association (TEXPAC), Texas Association of Builders (HOMEPAC), and is the only candidate to be endorsed by Texas law enforcement and pro-‐life organizations. He also earned the highest possible rating by the National Rifle Association and Texas State Rifle Association.

In his endorsement, Aycock noted the friendly nature of the race to succeed him but also the importance of having a representative with Cosper’s long record of community involvement and deep knowledge of local issues, saying:

House District 54 is fortunate to have two good candidates vying to be our next State Representative.  As the present Representative  I have been asked frequently about my choice in the upcoming run-‐off election.

Today I am announcing  that I am endorsing  and supporting  Scott Cosper for State Representative,  District  54. The reason  for my decision  is the simple  fact that Scott  is the candidate with experience.  His years of public service related to issues important to District 54  will  make  him  an  effective  Representative  from  his  first  day  in  Austin.  Transportation, military  affairs,  water  policy  and  local  governance  are  all  issues  in  which  Scott  has  years  of valuable experience.

At a time when many are reluctant to serve in public office, Scott and his family have given countless hours to benefit our area. I ask you to join me in selecting Scott Cosper as our next State Representative.

Humbled by Aycock’s endorsement, Cosper said, “This race is about giving our district a strong advocate who will achieve conservative results for Central Texas families with the kind of thoughtfulness and unquestioned integrity we have come to expect from Jimmie Don Aycock. I am grateful for his counsel and encouragement in my campaign and I am honored to be his choice to succeed him in the Texas House.”

Scott Cosper is currently Mayor of Killeen and was previously elected five times to serve on the city council. He also serves on the advisory board for McLane Children’s Baylor Scott & White Hospital, the Board of Directors of the Texas A&M Central Texas Foundation, the policy board for his area’s Metropolitan Planning Organization, and is Secretary of the Texas Military Mayors Council.

Cosper finished first in a multicandidate field in the March 1 Republican Primary election. Since no candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote, a runoff election will be held on May 24.
